My Approach

I offer a personalized approach to psychiatry. I believe that each individual has their own unique story and background, and I work hard to understand how they interplay in each patient's life. This helps guide the non-pharmacological aspect of treatment I provide. I have been formally trained in multiple psychotherapy modalities, which are integrated into my practice to complement the psychotherapy my patient may be receiving. I also incorporate teachings from eastern spirituality, including Buddhism and Daoism. My approach is focused on establishing meaningful connections with patients and their families, collaborating on treatment plans, and providing the best evidence-based treatment. To that end, I hope to form a collaboration between all members of my patient's treatment team, including that of their support system and school.

For many, medications are part of their treatment plan. One of the most important parts of my job is psychoeducation. I want my patients to know what their diagnosis means, what treatments are indicated, and what is the evidence for each treatment. I also want my patients to feel empowered with their own skills and coping mechanisms, and to that end, I try to use the minimum number of medications at the lowest effective dose. For most disorders, once lasting recovery has been achieved, I actively try to work on tapering off medications. My ultimate goal for most of my patients is not to need medications long-term.
